Eating Well in Livingston Montana
Livingston is a really cute town about a half hour outside of Bozeman and about the same to Pray where we often stay. While we love Pray, it has much less options for food and cafes.
Livingston has several cafés though many of them close by 2 PM. Our can’t miss matcha place is Firefly Pottery, Coffee and Ice Cream. Yes they have it all. They have a place in back where you can paint pottery though we’ve never done it. Their match is smooth, they have alternate milks like almond and unsweetened is the norm there so you don’t have to ask for no sugar. At the end of a long day I look forward to getting a refreshing matcha here. It’s always a solid bet.
On our last trip when they were closed, I discovered a place called The Gem which is a cute grocery store and cafe. Their matcha is delightful though they only have one size. I would also avoid Coffee Crossing as their Matcha comes sweetened. This will become part of my matcha roster on future trips.
For delicious food, I highly Campione. Their arugula salad, focaccia and meatballs are my favorites and are all amazing. One time they had heirloom tomatoes, I highly recommend them if they’re in season and on the menu. Campione is one of the best restaurants in all of Montana and very popular so try to make a reservation in advance. You can make them up to 30 days in advance. You can sometimes get a seat at the bar which they reserved for walk-ins, but make sure you get there early as people start lining up at 4:30 for a 5 PM opening.
If you want to pick up some organic groceries, check out Foodworks. The store is on the small side, but they have many great staples, fresh produce and even a rotisserie chicken. They also have a great selection of dried jerky which my husband loves as he picks some up for snacks for trips into Yellowstone National Park.
If you happen to be in Pray or Emigrant, be careful about Wildflour cafe. They have alternate milks, but their Matcha has cane sugar in it and is generally a pretty poor Matcha. I don’t even drink this in case of an emergency. I’d rather go without caffeine. But if you’re desperate, or don’t mind cain sugar in your Matcha, it might be a good option as there is not much in that area.
